Hazardous Substances
Navigating Hazardous Substances Regulations: Expert Guidance from Rangiriri Consultants
The Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO) manages risks from dangerous goods and new organisms in New Zealand. Most controls shifted to the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substance) Regulations 2017 on December 1, 2017, while HSNO remains valid.
If you handle hazardous materials, these regulations apply. Ensure proper substance management and staff awareness about handling, storage, and emergencies. If you need guidance, we're here to help.
Examples of hazardous materials:
Acids
Alkalis
Solvents and solvent based products (paints)
Oxidisers (including bottled oxygen)
Flammable gases (LPG, Acetylene)
Rangiriri Consultants offers expertise in hazardous substances to assist you in meeting certification requirements.
Residential Housing Methamphetamine Testing
Methamphetamine use is increasing as is the use of residential properties for the clandestine manufacture of this illegal drug. The use and manufacture of methamphetamine leaves toxic residues that are harmful to humans.
It is becoming increasingly important for those renting or purchasing residential housing to have the property screened for methamphetamine prior to completing the hire / purchase agreement.
Rangiriri Consultants is able to undertake routine sampling and analysis for methamphetamine contamination of residential housing. Using a registered laboratory we will sample the property and have a report back within 3 working days. The laboratory uses sophisticated analytical equipment that is capable of detecting 0.02 micrograms per sample compared to other methods that detect 1 microgram per sample.
Our qualified chemist will personally visit the property to undertake the sampling and take photos of the sampled area. Once the results are returned from the laboratory he will advise on any next steps if required.
